2009 April

Created by Yian 12 years ago
Since the diagnosis of liver cancer in September 2007, Shuang took on a courageous battle against the disease. He went to Shanghai for a liver resection in October 2007. When the cancer returned in 2008, he made another trip to Shanghai for a full liver transplant. In the subsequent years, he endured myriad cancer treatments: chemotherapy, radiotherapy, more surgeries, gamma-knife, angiogenesis inhibitor, and two experimental drug trials. Throughout the fight, he continued to live life with zeal, passion, and optimism, never once whine or complain. In his spare time, he built a new, successful career in Shanghai, winning numerous friendships and awards. Shuang never gave up. He fought to the end. He asked to be taken to the ICU in his final hours, willing to prolong and even aggravate his suffering in exchange for a temporal moment among the living. Surrendering to death is just not Shuang. Yet, he accepted death with admirable dignity and confidence. He has so much to live for, and there is still so much he wanted to do!
